This project was a competition held by Architectural Record and directed by the School of Architecture at Tulane. The design concept highlighted the true beauty and power of New Orleans’ architecture and created a stronger connection to the Mississippi River and its residents. The competition was designed to spark feasible design ideas from international participants for large scale mix use residential developments in response to the current housing shortage faced by the city of New Orleans and Southern Louisiana. Designed with durable materials, this mixed-use building utilizes passive cooling, rainwater collection, and landscaping to minimize its carbon footprint. Balconies on the north and south sides of the building and its proximity to a public park allow residents to enjoy the unique flavor of public life that New Orleans has to offer.
