LSU CENTER FOR RIVER STUDIES | BATON ROUGE, LA
Located at the foot of the Mississippi River Bridge, the River Modeling Center has become an anchor for Baton Rouge’s new “Water Campus.” The LSU-operated and Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority-funded research center houses a large-scale, functioning model of the lower Mississippi River, which will aid in the study of erosion and strategic interventions. In addition to the 90’ x 120’ model, the facility contains a large interactive and educational exhibition space, offices for scientists and employees, and classrooms in which students can study coastal influences. The River Modeling Center gives coastal scientists the opportunity to study coastal erosion projects as they relate to physical changes along the lower Mississippi River.
